The other day at an event, I had somebody approach me about our Shock-Free Rattlesnake Avoidance class. They wanted to know if it was worth it to sign up for a class since it was getting more toward the end of the summer season. It was such a great question, I decided to write a short blog about it!
The answer to that question is an absolute, resounding YES!
Late Summer or Fall is actually a great time to sign up for a Rattlesnake Avoidance class because you get your foundation built, then you have all winter to train and perfect before the next summer season. With our Shock-Free option, we provide a scent article as part of the training, and after class you receive a customized training plan for you and your dog to keep training beyond class.
That means you can take that scent article and what you have learned and continue training. When summer rolls around again, you and your dog are ready to jump to the trails as soon as the snow melts (or even before if you enjoy snowshoeing–rattlesnake avoidance training can happen even when snakes aren’t out!).
That is one of the great things about using the positive reinforcement rattlesnake avoidance training method. You can train beyond class because you learn the technique and how to train, and then you can continuously keep it up! So, the next time you think you have waited too long to sign up, don’t worry, you haven’t! In fact, it might be the perfect timing!
