What is the Spring Scurry?

Every year, the AKC holds a 5K for dog owners everywhere. Register, grab your pup, and hit the trail (or park, sidewalk, track, etc.). You can do the whole 3.1 miles in one jaunt, or split it up into several installments. The best part is, you (or your pup) will receive a medal to proudly wear and show off in photos and video for your favorite social media platform.

Training to a T, LLC is holding a Troop Trek (Pack Walk) for those who would like to get together with their pups and walk/run the 5K and get their medal at the same time.

In-Person Troop Trek is $40.00 per medal/dog. Cost includes the pack walk and your medal. If you have multiple dogs or want multiple medals, make sure to adjust quantity.

The AKC FIT DOG Spring Scurry is a virtual 5K (3.1 miles) with your dogs. This non-competitive 5K can be done all at one time, or in smaller segments on multiple days so that everyone (people and dogs) can participate at their own pace. This can be a walk or run activity.

Registration Fee Helps Animals

Twenty dollars of your registration fee goes toward your medal, with proceeds to support programs for AKC Juniors. (This is administered by the AKC). The remainder of your fee goes toward supporting our local animals. This can be sponsoring adoptions at our local shelters, free training, donations for shelter pups, etc. (administered by Training to a T, LLC).

Details

  • The 5K (3.1 miles) can be walked/run all at once for people and dogs who are fit, or you may break your 5K into as many days/sessions as you need to keep you and your dog safe.
  • You and your dog can do the 5K on your own or with a group of friends and their dogs (make sure they register if they want a medal of their own).
  • It can be done anywhere that you and your dog are welcome to walk/run – in a local park, on a trail, or in your neighborhood.
  • The AKC FIT DOG Spring Scurry is done on an honor system and counts toward points if you are working toward your AKC FIT DOG title with the AKC.
  • Complete the 5K (3.1 miles) with your dog. This can be all at once, or in as many days/sessions as you need. Document your distances and times on a smartphone, smartwatch (or similar device), or on a written log. (You will need to provide these screenshots and documentation if you are submitting them to the AKC for the FIT DOG title, otherwise, just enjoy the activity).

Training to a T, LLC is an approved AKC FIT DOG Level 1 instructor and an AKC CGC evaluator.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: By registering for this event, you agree to release Training to a T, LLC and the AKC of all liability in the event you or your dog gets hurt in participating. There is always risk in any physical activity, including walking or running. Make sure you and your dog are fit enough to participate and that you and your dog have a clean bill of health from a healthcare professional and a vet.
