Private Classes, Group Classes and Individual Canine Good Citizen Testing
The AKC Canine Good Citizen program is open to all dogs and is a great place to start training your dog on basic obedience behaviors. If you plan to register your dog as a therapy dog, the Canine Good Citizen program is a prerequisite. Some day care businesses and other dog businesses require the CGC for admission as well. Classes are available in both group and private formats and we also administer the test individually. Private lessons will be billed based on private lesson package costs.
Learn and master the 10 items needed to register your dog as an AKC Canine Good Citizen. Class will end with the test, and upon passing, you will receive a ribbon, certificate and information on how to register with the AKC. Not every dog will pass the test at the end of the class as some dogs take more time to learn these skills. You may choose to continue working with your dog if you don’t think he/she is ready for the test. All pricing includes one test/evaluation and one additional attempt if your dog needs more training and doesn’t pass.
The CGC test/evaluation is entirely optional and is very laid back if you choose to participate. You may take the class just to learn the obedience behaviors if you wish. You may also attend an evaluation before deciding if you would like to try the test/evaluation.
More about the CGC from the Canine Good Citizen Website:
“CGC is a ten-skill training program that’s open to all dogs–purebred and mixed breed–that focuses on teaching the basics of good manners and obedience, instilling the values of responsible ownership, and strengthening the bond between you and your dog at home and out in the community.
After mastering the ten skills, passing the CGC test together, and taking the Responsible Dog Ownership pledge, you and your pup will join the proud ranks of over 1 million dogs who have earned their Canine Good Citizen award– accomplishment that’s definitely worthy of extra belly rubs!”
